Bolinao Beach Hopping…sort of

We get to spend one summer vacation in Bolinao, Pangasinan a few years ago.  It’s about a 4-hour drive from the capital City of Manila.  Again, I don’t really mind the long drive but it’s completely a different thing when you’re traveling with the whole family – kids and all.  Nonetheless, we’re able to somehow make the trip back and forth worthwhile.

We stayed at Villa Carolina Beach Resort located at Malino.  We got three separate rooms in total, one of which is bahay-kubo inspired which is really nice.  The resort has its own swimming pool to the kids’ delight because although they do love the beach, they still prefer to swim in the pool.

Bolinao4We took a tricycle ride (provided by the resort) to take us to Enchanted Cave.   How can you refuse an invitation like that, first it’s a cave, then it’s called enchanted, haha! Needless to say, we’re all quite excited.  Upon reaching the location and after a quite steep descent, we saw the crystal clear water in an underground pool!  We did enjoy swimming inside the cave but opted to return to the resort shortly after because the kids are not exactly having fun – it’s quite scary inside to be honest, haha, especially whenever you get a glimpse of certain tunnels or passages with rope barrier where people are not allowed to swim.

crystal caveWe woke up early the following morning to enjoy sunrise at the beach.  We stroll the whole stretch.  The kids enjoy running around in knee-deep water.  It’s a first for us to experience something like that, you can go far out, maybe about a kilometer (I want to remind you though that I’m bad at estimates! haha!), and water only gets up to waist-deep.

So, we all decided to check out earlier than planned from the resort and head somewhere else, Patar Beach to be exact.  As soon as we got there, the real fun begins!  The water is amazingly blue, there’s fish and the sand is so fine!  We spend the whole day swimming, enjoying the waves, playing with the kids and we even get to sample some sea urchin!  (Taste like an oyster!)

  1. how much willl i spend if my husband and i would go land trip???then upon reaching to bolinao, are ther inns or lodge that are less expensive since we will be spending more of our time outside???

    • Hello Catherine! Sorry for the late reply…I’m afraid I’m not that knowledgeable with the costs of the trip… transpo, lodging and all (I just ask how much I needed to chip in and that’s pretty much it.) I know though for one, that there are a lot of affordable inns and lodges there specially when it’s just the two of you, no need for reservations and stuff…backpackers-style, hihi! I think that’s kinda cool actually, ‘would have enjoyed that, too, had not I traveled with the whole family ;)
